Digital Media Usage

The sites and applications that I mainly use on a daily basis are Youtube and Instagram. Youtube is a website that allows people to post videos that can be viewed all across the globe. People can comment on a video, and if they feel as if it is deserving, people can give a video a “like”. If someone’s Youtube account content interests you enough, then you can subscribe to their account so that their posts and other actions on the website are presented on the main or front page of Youtube. Instagram is an application found on phones that is a social media. It allows people to express themselves with posts that appear on the people’s timelines who follow you. It features an explore page that contains a bunch of pictures and videos that relate to other posts you like and or consistently view. Instagram also allows people to make group chats, where a group of people can send posts to one another.

I always have a positive reaction when using Youtube because it is a form on entertainment. I do not like watching television, nor do I like the selection of films and shows found on Netflix. Youtube allows me to search for anything I am in the mood to watch, and it can also be educational if you watch the right videos. Instagram gives me a mixture of both positive and negative reactions. My friends send very funny and crazy posts which give me positive reactions and make me want to keep scrolling through Instagram’s explore page for stuff to send to group chats. However, celebrities and social media “influencers” will often post on their Instagrams showing off their looks and materialistic things. This has led people who live average lives to consistently try to prove to their followers that they are well presentable and have money. I do not understand why people need to try to be like celebrities and show off their everyday lives. This is a very negative reaction of mine.

Youtube definitely satisfies my needs way more than Instagram does. This is because Youtube can entertain me for hours, whereas I just scroll through Instagram when I am bored. I can not learn much from Instagram, however I do find many tutorial and educational videos that guide me through getting other things accomplished. The negative aspects I listed about Instagram make me want to close the application whenever I see it happen.

I typically never check emails, but when I do open emails from companies they are usually related to clothing. I am really interested in fashion so whenever a company emails me about sales I become interested enough to open the email and read about the details.

Digital media marketing is a lot more profound today than it ever was. So many people have social medias, and the age range and geographical location are extremely diverse for social media users. This allows for many different companies to promote and advertise their company, products, and ideas to potential customers and their target audience.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
